Hosted Phone Systems are offsite remotely located software phone switches. Normally the customer purchases a router, switch, multi port hub and as many IP phones sets as they need. On a hosted PBX solution the customer does not purchase a phone system only the accessories. The customer will purchase a monthly services plan normally per user or extension. As a result, hosted systems are usually quicker and cheaper to install and set up. They offer a standardized set of services. Because they are hosted remotely, there is less maintenance for a business and no need to perform upgrades. The downside is that upgrades often must wait until the service provider is prepared to offer them. There is less flexibility and fewer options in configuring the system.
